Chalk it up to a serendipitous stroke of luck that the Frick Art Museum in Point Breeze landed the splendid exhibit, "To Observe and Imagine: British Drawings and Watercolors from the Morgan Library." With the Morgan shuttered for renovation, it's the first time the works have left their hallowed halls in Manhattan. What we have here is a master class of exquisite pieces by the likes of Gainsborough, Blake, Turner and Constable. And one that neatly dovetails with Pittsburgh's industrial past, since Pierpont Morgan, the Jupiter of American finance, created the U.S. Steel Corp. here.
The Fluted Mushroom catered Thursday's classy reception in the Frick's rotunda, where FAM director Bill Bodine and chair Betsy Watkins welcomed such as Nancy and Dan Fales; Joan and Tom Taylor; Carol Word and Bill Trueheart; Barbara Barry; Sibby McCrady; Betsy and Bill Amis; and John Mills.
